Lockdown is hard for us all. It’s a tough time, but what a great thing that we can at least get takeaway in Edinburgh – and that it can include gluten free fish and chips!
We have just enjoyed the best gluten free fish & chips I have eaten in a long while! The newish fish & chip bar in Marchmont: #FISH, is just the best. A quick call in advance confirmed that all the gluten free fish & chips are cooked in separate fryers, so there is no risk of contamination, and then an easy online order system via Facebook or Instagram, and we were in business.
I ordered the gluten free Haddock fish supper. And it comes as a traditional, fluffy, light and not at all greasy, batter with plentiful chips (too many to eat!). My gluten eating family enjoyed the usual fish & chips, which were also delicious, and then devoured the remains of mine – including commenting that the batter was even lighter than the gluten version.
There are some tasty sides, including the nicest mushy peas, some zingy garlic mayonnaise and some very good GF pudding options, with little treats from Honeybuns Bakery – I tested one while writing this and they are tasty little slices which are worth seeking out. These are thoughtful and wonderful owners!
There are also plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, including haggis bons bons (I wish!) and something called Tofish, burgers, black pudding and all sorts of choice for the plant eater. There are also some fishcakes, meat options and some amazing looking sauces,
There are several options for gluten free fish & chips around Edinburgh, but this has shot right into my top slot.
Available on UberEats, Just-Eat and Deliveroo, but if you are outside the delivery area (which we are), you can just go and fetch them from outside the shop.
